Jiangxi Province

Jiangxi Province
Jiangxi Province is in southeastern China. It is covered by mountains and forests on three sides, and has lower sloping land in the north, where it is bordered by the Yangtze River, one of the many rivers in this province. Jiangxi enjoys a subtropical humid climate, but there are four distinct seasons. While the climate her is generally pleasant, Nanchang, the capital city, is know as one of the hottest cities in China!
Jiangxi is a fertile land and is a large producer of rice and tea. Mandarin oranges originated here. Jiangxi cuisine has some of the strongest flavors in China, due to the heavy use of chile peppers.
Jiangxi is renowned for producing the finest quality porcelain in China - an art which originated there over 1,700 years ago.
Below is a video of Jiangxi Province, with particular emphasis on the provincial captial of Nanchang, population 4 million.
Jiangxi has many beautiful and thriving areas. But this is only one side of the coin. Jiangxi is actually one of the poorest provinces in China. Access to adequate medical care and education can be difficult. In addition, over the past 5 years several natural disasters (earthquake, typhoon, and blizzard) have taken a toll on the rural people of this area.
Emma's orphanage is located in a town that is very remote and quite impoverished. The children are housed in a wing of a larger building, called the Yihuang County Social Welfare Institute, which also houses elderly people who do not have family to care for them.
